#TheSims4: Which Legacy Challenge Should I Do First?

The Sims - For Everyone

Challenges are not an inherit part of The Sims franchise, however, throughout its history, players have been creating and sharing their different ways of playing the game and gamers like me have been adding them to our repertoires for years. Challenges almost always change the way you experience the game and can add a level of competition that usually isn’t a part of The Sims.

There are a wide variety of challenges to complete in The Sims 4. More often than not, these challenges are created by players of the game and change/evolve as the game does. There are also new challenges being added constantly and many of the challenges have been adapted from previous versions of The Sims to allow for play in The Sims 4.

One thing that I love about challenges is their ability to entirely change the way that you play the game. In the past, I have played a legacy challenge and I was most impressed with the fact that it kept me coming back to the same family longer than I had ever played a sims family before. It literally challenges you to step outside of your gaming comfort levels and allows you to experience the game differently than you usually would.

I’ve listed all of the Legacy Challenges that I’m most interested in and a short synopsis of what the challenge entails (either as written by the challenge creator or the best I can gather from rules and exceptions). I also have a lot of other types of challenges that I’d like to do, but today I’m focusing on Legacy Challenges.

So, which one should I start with? Vote in the poll below to let me know which one you’d like to see me do first!

The Original Legacy Challenge

“The Legacy Challenge tasks you with creating a single founder Sim moving them in to a giant lot, and starting out in abject poverty. Your founder must build their house, build their wealth, and ultimately bring in the second generation to continue when they die. In this challenge you play a single family for 10 full generations. With less control over how your children turn out and more challenges thrown your way, the challenge asks the very important question. “What kind of Legacy will you leave?”

Decades Challenge

You begin the challenge in the 1890’s, when people pooped outside and women had no rights! Traveling through the decades, you unlock different abilities and privileges. For example, when you start, you can only bathe. In the 1950’s, you can finally add showers! There are currently rules for the 1890’s – 2010’s.

The Build Newcrest Challenge

“It will be your Legacy’s responsibility and gift to the community to build all the neighborhoods and community lots for the future of Newcrest. Each generation will have a specific building goal and cannot build until they have completed their job and aspiration that lays the foundation for their building goals.”

The Disney Princess 10 Gen Challenge

Play through each generation as a different Disney princess. You begin as Snow White with 7 children and work through princesses including Cinderella, Aurora, Rapunzel, Belle, Mulan and Jasmine. Each generation comes with specific tasks and restrictions on traits, aspirations, spouses and family.

The Cult or Commune Challenge

“Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a part of a commune, just living off the land? Or to lead a cult composed of people with ideas that just don’t fit in with mainstream society? Have you ever thought about joining a group of people together just to see what you could come up with as a team? Then the Cult or Commune Challenge may be for you! You will recruit a group of people, develop your own customs, decide how to work together, develop your own code of dress, start up a collection of treasures, learn lots of skills, discover love, and have children to spread your ideas! Create your leader, gather your people, and you decide–cult or commune?”

The History Challenge

“The Sims 4 History Challenge is a Legacy-style challenge that takes your Sims on a journey through the history of the world. It spans 7 major time periods, referred to as Eras, from prehistoric to modern, across multiple generations of Sims. The selection of aspirations, careers, and objects you may use will be quite limited at first, but as you progress through the Eras you will unlock more and more options. You will be challenged to not only succeed in the long run, through a set of challenge-wide goals, but also on a per-Era level, as each Era has individual goals that can only be completed while that Era is active.”

I’m a Lover Challenge

Play through 10 generations of different love styles. From marriage to your high school sweetheart to a life of bachelorhood, each generation has different love requirements. Ultimately, you end up building a graveyard to memorializing your family of lovers.

Parentcy Challenge

Like the previous challenge, you play through 10 generations – but instead of love styles you play parenting styles. From the hardworking single mom to the neglectful and insane parent to finally, the not a parent! This challenge has a point system that looks pretty intense.
